Spots & Stripes therapy animals are carefully selected for their personality, temperament, and entertainment value. Our chief therapy animals will be primarily recruited from the Bengal and Savannah cat breeds.
These cats are the offspring of domestic cats bred with the Asian Leopard Cat and the African Serval, respectively. Both are recognized cat breeds by the The International Cat Association (TICA) and share their ancestors’ wild looks and charm but with wonderful “dog-like” personalities.
Elwood, is a Bengal cat. He enjoys going for walks, playing with rubber bands, napping, and climbing trees.

All official Spots & Stripes animals will be purchased from USDA licensed breeders within the continental United States. Each of these animals will be hand-raised and selected for temperament and capability for inter-species socialization. Any direct contact that patients may have with these animals will be strictly monitored and at the discretion of the therapist and caretaking staff.

The potential risk factors involving the Spots & Stripes therapy animals are very slim due to the specific nature of the animals selected. None of the animal species are endangered or threatened and all would normally have been sold to private owners as pets.
